2023 Whipple Writing Fellow

Sofía Vasquez '24 typically consumes her free time by listening to music, reading, writing, and spending time with her friends, family and pets. She enjoys all kinds of music however her favorite above all is reggaeton as she admires the flows and rhythms of the beats and lyrics. As for reading and writing, Sofía consumes a range of different genres, with main focuses on magical realism and dystopian. But her main passion is to write short stories, of which she has been doing since she was 7. Earlier this school year, she participated in BHS’s Day of Racial Reform and Solidarity, in which she wrote and read a personal essay to the student body about her experiences with race and racism. At school Sofía is involved in track and field and the School Within a School (SWS) community. Originally, she applied for SWS to enhance her writing craft and skills, and it has done just that. With the tools that Sofía has gained in her 10 years of writing, she fervently continues her passion, and she is proud to say that her acceptance into the fellowship program will add to that.
