2025 Whipple Writing Fellow

Simone Zierten-Singleton ‘26 enjoys yoga, baking, adventuring with friends, and swimming in the ocean whenever possible. Simone’s passion for social justice work has fueled her volunteering at Rosie's Place and the Brookline Food Pantry. Her grandmother inspired her interest in writing, through sharing the works of Angela Davis and Maya Angelou. Soon after, Simone quickly learned that she had a special love for poetry as a form of expression. Poetry has been an outlet for Simone through all four years of high school, in both her lowest and highest moments. When she is not working, Simone can be found in her local park, listening to Amy Winehouse while aimlessly writing away in her journal. She also enjoys studying American History, which prompted her idea to research and write about one of America's most infamous wars, Vietnam, while also weaving a social justice perspective into her writing by spotlighting the narrative of African American soldiers.
