Kai Putney

2025 Whipple Writing Fellow

Kai Putney '26 enjoys spending his time competing in robotics competitions and refining his physics skills. He frequently volunteers at the Goddard House, which sparked an interest in undiscussed topics between generations. Kai plays soccer for the BHS varsity team and for the Boston Bolts. When he is not playing soccer he referees youth soccer games and helps direct the Free Kick Initiative to provide skills clinics for young kids. Kai has always appreciated the way writing communicates ideas, away from the distractions of popular media. As he processed his own recovery from an ACL tear, he was drawn toward the topic of sports injuries, hoping to dig past the headlines of star players being sidelined for a season. Although he hasn't always leaned toward writing, as opposed to STEM, he is passionate about advocating for concepts that are often misunderstood.
