Finch Ferreira

2025 Whipple Writing Fellow

Finch Ferreira '26 spends their free time birding in whatever environment available, whether it is the bustling streets of Boston or the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest in Martha's Vineyard. A main goal of theirs is to one day see the American Woodcock, but these small rotund birds still remain elusive. To compensate for this lack of bird sightings, Finch depicts birds in a variety of artworks, from scientific illustrations to linocut printing. Other than birding, Finch is a leader of the BHS GSA and is a member of the Brookline LGBTQ+ Task Force, where they work to make Brookline a better, more inclusive space for queer students. While they may not be an avid writer, Finch is passionate about environmental science and bird conservation in North America, choosing to use writing as a form to give a voice to environmental problems that the everyday person may help to solve.
